In His Presence 9

In His Presence 9 was staged at the Shaw Park Complex in Tobago on 30 March 2019, from 6pm, under the line “Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is Freedom”.

Seven sets were recorded across the night. It opened with worship from Forward D Band and closed with American gospel artist Maranda Curtis, whose set ran just under an hour. Papa San, Blessed Messenger and Positive were billed alongside her.

Maranda Curtis was a change to the original bill. In His Presence 9 was first announced with Tasha Cobbs Leonard as the featured artist, and the earliest artwork carried her name. Both versions of the poster survive in the Dominion Promotions archive.

The night in review

The recorded programme runs to about three and a half hours across seven sets.

Forward D Band opened with thirteen minutes of worship, setting the room before any of the billed artists appeared. David Frank followed with eight minutes, the shortest set of the night.

Shantal Lindsay performed next with Soul Impact, seventeen minutes together. It is her earliest appearance in this archive; she returned to the In His Presence stage five years later at the eleventh staging.

Blessed Messenger took close to half an hour. A Tobagonian artist from the village of Bethel, he is one of the most frequently recurring names across the whole series.

The last two sets carried the night. Papa San played for forty four minutes, and Maranda Curtis closed with fifty nine, the longest single set in the recording. Between them they account for well over half the running time.

Positive's thirty minute set survives as a separate recording. Where it sat in the running order has not yet been confirmed, so it appears last here rather than being placed on a guess.
